FAQ

What precautions should be taken before cleaning and disinfecting?

It is important that the device is powered off prior to cleaning the system. Ensure there is no cauterization or laser procedure in the same or adjacent room during cleaning or disinfecting devices or the floor.

What are the general recommended guidelines to clean equipment surfaces?

Please follow the specific cleaning recommendations for Alcon equipment. In addition, here are general guidelines for cleaning surfaces. Use wipes or saturate disposable paper towel(s) with unscented 50% Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution. With slower evaporation, a 50% IPA solution is effective in removing contaminants on touch screens and dust particles from panels. Repeat with fresh new damp towel until contaminants are removed. With dry disposable towel(s) wipe off excess alcohol marks. In hidden areas like corners, use cotton tips.

How should equipment surfaces be disinfected?

Please follow the specific disinfection recommendations for Alcon equipment. In addition, here are general guidelines for disinfecting surfaces. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends 70% Isopropyl alcohol in its guidance for disinfecting against COVID-19. If there are alcohol-sensitive lasers in the room these should be powered off during disinfection. Saturate disposable paper towel(s) with unscented 70% IPA. Use disposable gloves and wipe the surfaces of the device. Do not use alcohol solution more than 70%. Higher alcohol percentage can remove paint and sticker adhesive. Let the alcohol dry for 1 minute. Cover alcohol bottle after use to prevent the solution to absorb water in the air that will decrease alcohol percentage. Discard used paper towels and gloves accordingly. Clean hands immediately after gloves are removed.
